About The Role

Role: Immunisation Improvement Nurse (Part-time, 22.5 hours per week, 2 year Fixed Term Contract)

The CHIS provides a high standard of administrative support to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, working collaboratively with General Practices, Health Visiting Services, Maternity Units, Screening Providers and other agencies. The CHIS holds screening and immunisation information for all children aged 0-19 years (up to 25 years for young people with special educational needs and disabilities), living, registered with a GP and or attending school in the area. The CHIS works in partnership with healthcare professionals to support delivery of Healthy Child Programme interventions and to ensure the child health record is accurate and complete.

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Lead to improve childhood vaccination uptake (0-5 years), focusing on GP Practices and communities with low engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership & Quality Improvement

  • Support GP Practices in enhancing immunisation processes and data accuracy.
  • Act as the clinical lead within the Immunisation Improvement Team (IIT).
  • Tailor immunisation initiatives to individual practice needs.
  • Promote adherence to national immunisation guidelines.

Data Quality & Targeted Interventions

  • Use CHIS and GP data to identify and address low uptake areas.
  • Support practices in reviewing and actioning due/overdue vaccination lists.
  • Improve call and recall systems to enhance service delivery.

Collaborative Working & Training

  • Engage with GP teams, ICB coordinators, and community health teams to improve vaccine access.
  • Train healthcare professionals on best practices, vaccine hesitancy, and effective communication.
  • Ensure vaccination discussions are maximised during routine health checks.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Track progress, adapt strategies, and share best practices across GP Practices.
  • Report on outcomes and recommend improvements for immunisation services.

The Immunisation Improvement Nurse will play a key role in increasing vaccination uptake among the 0 to 5-year-old population, with a strong focus on engaging underserved children and communities.

The postholder will work closely with GP Practices to provide targeted support, addressing barriers to immunisation, reducing missed appointments, and improving overall engagement with families.

Working in collaboration with a dedicated Data Analyst and GP Practices, the postholder will implement evidence-based strategies to enhance immunisation coverage across the region. This will include ensuring equitable access to vaccination services, improving data accuracy and recording processes, and supporting initiatives that drive sustainable improvements in uptake and coverage.

The postholder will respond to information and report requests from internal and external colleagues and stakeholders.

You will have experience of:
 
Essential Experience & Qualifications
  • 3+ years’ experience in public health, primary care, or preventative healthcare, focusing on immunisations or screening.
  • Extensive experience working with children, including vulnerable groups.
  • Proficiency in GP clinical systems (EMIS, SystmOne) or PAS functionality.
  • Proven track record in quality improvement initiatives for vaccination uptake and health inequalities.
  • Experience engaging diverse and underserved populations, addressing barriers to access.
  • Skilled in supporting GP Practices to enhance service delivery, data quality, and patient engagement.
  • Strong background in health promotion, behaviour change, and vaccine hesitancy strategies.
  • Experience in training healthcare professionals and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborative working with multidisciplinary teams to improve health outcomes.
  • Ability to use health surveillance data to identify trends, target interventions, and assess impact.
  • Knowledge of national immunisation policies and adherence to NHS and UKHSA standards.
  • Experience in patient engagement strategies, outreach campaigns, and call/recall systems.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a car for business use.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) with current UK professional registration.
  • Evidence of recent continued professional development.
